….Happy holidays (#8)

Unlike the northern parts of the world, we are lucky to have a summer festive season – sun, sea and plenty of drinks. Social media are filled with images of girls in bikini’s, friends sipping cocktails and all those family ice cream outings.Cool-Summer-Drinks

I am the worse ever when it comes to drinking water. I drink plenty of coffee, but if I drink about 500 ml of water a day – I consider it a great day. It’s not that I don’t like water, I guess I just prefer coffee….and sparkling water.

This year we discovered Gudgu cordials and all of a sudden it was easier to stay hydrated. Some sparkling water with your cordial flavor of choice (currently our favourite – pink lemonade, blueberry and strawberry) and you are set. You can even add your favourite alcohol and make a real cocktail.

Staying hydrated is so important for overall health.  Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. Drinking enough water will help your body to remove toxins and even give you clearer skin. During summer months this is even more important to prevent dehydration, and those nasty headaches associated with dehydration.

During summer we also trade our usual cream coffee for Ice coffee. That way I satisfy my coffee addiction and cool down – double win. We tend to forget that indulging in cocktails (and other alcoholic drinks) can actually leave us dehydrated, so during the festive season it because crucial to ensure you drink enough water. I know I will make a point of it to increase my water intake during this holiday season, and I hope you will do the same.
