….weekends

WEEK-END : The last part of the week, typically from Friday evening through Sunday evening, but sometimes including other adjacent days, especially when seen as a time of leisure or recreation

Please tell me who doesn’t love weekends?? Time to sleep in, get spoilt with coffee in bed and maybe even breakfast, but mostly to spend quality time with the family. I am sure the idea of the “perfect weekend’ means something different to each person or family.

As a kid, weekends meant no scholl, no homework, and definitely not going to be at 8 pm. As a student on the other hand, it meant it’s time to party, and party hard.

Before Little M, weekends had a whole different meaning to us. We could easily sleep in, lazing around without any sense of direction or purpose for that matter, and of course have a braai (truly South African). NOW – well it’s a totally different story. No more sleeping in – unless you consider 06:30 as sleeping in. It’s about spending as much time possible with Little M and as a family.

It is also about sharing. Sharing all the weeks’ frustrations from the office over a glass of wine while enjoying the summer sunset and some good food. With our busy schedules, weekends are the only time we have together as a family. This weekend we got spoilt by hubby. He made the most amazing oxtail potjie (A cast-iron pot with a lid, typically having three legs, for use over an open fire) and we could just sit back and relax, while the air was filled with the most amazing smells coming from the potjie.

As South Africans, food is always they common denominator in almost all our get togethers and this weekend was no exception. Because we love food and the culture it brings, weekends are also there for me to do some meal prep (you will see plenty of post regarding this). Whether it is to cook in bulk and make some freezers meals, trying out new recipes (like the oxtail Recipes) or just to spoil the family with great food cooked with love and passion.

It doesn’t matter what a weekend means to you, as long as you take the time to really relax and spend time with the people you love (or do the things you love). Hope you all had a great weekend. I know we LOVED our weekend.
